The man behind the accounts

Ryan's personal account

If you didn’t see all of the posts from all of the people involved with the cook up, where have you been?? So many fantastic accounts joined in what looked like an amazing day. I may have to make the journey next year, its exactly this sort of idea that really brings together the already fantastic bbq community.

WHAT GRILLS OR BBQ'S DO YOU COOK ON?

Timberline 1300, pro80 and mastertouch

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN COOKING AND WHAT GOT YOU INTO IT?

Always been into cooking since school even got an A in GCSEs haha. My dad was always into cooking especially Indian food. I chose Engineering instead of cooking for a living but have always cooked for family's and friends. I really got into grilling at the beginning of lockdown when I had more time on furlough.

WHAT IS YOUR BIGGEST COOKING FAILURE?

Sausage fatty, this was a cook inspired by @bebopsbbq and @gbgrillmaster on a series they were doing. It looked great but the outside tasted burnt haha.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE FILM, TV SHOW AND BAND/MUSIC?

Home alone 1, game of thrones and what ever is on the radio haha

WHAT WOULD BE YOUR SUPER POWER?

Freeze time so I could do everything I need to haha

WHAT WOULD BE THE FIRST THING YOU'D BUY IF YOU WON THE LOTTERY?

A villa in Florida we love going there on holiday, then a bbq road trip across the states

WHAT DO YOU DO FOR YOUR DAY JOB?

I'm a project engineer for a mechanical engineering company, traveling the country on chemical and food plants.

WHAT DO YOU DO WHEN YOU'RE NOT COOKING OR WORKING?

Spending time with my family, we are all season ticket holders for wigan athletic so will be there when the season starts again.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE COOK OR MEAL?

Too money to choose from, love using alternative cuts like beef cheeks and flat iron but lately I have been obsessed with a garlic Salmon recipe.

WHAT IS YOUR "GO TO" QUICK COOK?

Chicken wings, so many flavour options with them

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE SEASONING OR RUB?

My favourite all round bbq rub is deep bbq from @goodrub

WHAT IS YOUR PROUDEST MOMENT?

Apart from marrying my wife and having the kids, it would be setting up bbq up north and working with so many great companies

WHAT WOULD BE IN YOUR DREAM OUTDOOR COOKING SPACE?

The setup I have know is almost perfect the only thing missing is a fire cage.

WHERE IS YOUR PREFERRED PLACE TO GET YOUR MEAT?

The one and only @butcherfarrell

WHAT IS THE BEST RESTAURANT YOU'VE BEEN TO AND WHAT DID YOU EAT?

I recently went to Mowglis an Indian street-food restaurant, I have cooked recipes from their book but this was the first time eating there and was very tasty food.

HOW DID YOU COME UP WITH THE IDEA FOR THE COMMUNITY COOK UP?

Had the idea since lockdown and nobody could meet each other, had a couple of small cook ups with people in the North and that know is the time to get as many people together as possible.

HOW HARD WAS IT TO ORGANISE THE COMMUNITY COOK UP?

It's very difficult and a lot to organise but it helps that my day job is all about organising projects haha

WHAT IS THE STRANGEST THING OR MEAL YOU’VE EATEN?

300 day dry aged steak from @butcherfarrell a little too much for me haha

WHAT ARE YOU HOPING IT WILL DO FOR THE BBQ COMMUNITY?

Grow and bring everyone together. I have noticed on my personal food page @eatcookfoodie that the majority of people grilling are down south so I setup @bbqupnorth this year to help grow the community in the North which will hopefully benefit everyone. I can't wait for events in a couple of years time.

FAVOURITE SAYING OR MANTRA YOU LIVE BY?

Life's too short
